4 Tips to freeing up storage on your smartphones

Smartphones were originally created to be a tool for convenience in communicating. But now, it has so ingrained itself in the daily lives or people that it is rare to see someone not owning their own cellphones. They can range from the very basic phone that you will only use to call someone, to the very expensive ones with all the bells and whistles.

For those who cannot afford the more high-end models, they opt to go for phones with lower storage capacity. When before a 16GB or 32GB storage was enough, that does not see, to be the case nowadays, with many apps and games taking up more space than ever, not to mention how people love to take photos and videos everywhere they go.

It would be frustrating if you find yourself ready to take a picture of a momentous event, only for the phone to warn you that it is impossible as you do not have enough storage for said pictures. In order to avoid that scenario, check out these tips that you can do so that you will be able to free up storage space on your phone.

  1. Utilize the cloud storage for photos and videos– out of everything on your phone, your photos and videos would probably take up the most storage. The best thing to do is to store your photos to the cloud at the earliest opportunity. This way you can access them from anywhere if you ever need them, but they won’t be taking up any space on your phone.
  2. Buy a MicroSD card – another easy way is to just buy a MicroSD card to increase the storage on your Android phone. Most phones nowadays have an extra card slot so you just need to put your purchased card there. It’s not very expensive so it’s better than buying a new phone. While iPhone models are not built to add extra storage, you can buy peripherals so that you can move your photos and videos instead of storing them on the phone.
  3. Delete apps and games you barely use – it might be tempting to just download any app or game that interests you, but you may not realize that once you add them all together, they can take up a lot of space. Go through your memory and see which apps or games take up the biggest space, if you find that you rarely make use of them, it would be better to just delete so that you can have more space when you need it. It would also be a good idea to regularly clear the cache as some apps store data.
  4. Opt to stream movies instead of downloading them – if you want to avoid running out of storage space, don’t download music or movies. There are streaming devices that you can use, such as Netflix or Spotify so that you can still enjoy your favorite shows or movies without having to save them on your phone.
